Fan Casting the "Men In Black" Reboot

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that the long-rumored "Men in Black" spin-off has been scheduled by Sony for May 17, 2019. Previous reboot rumors have included a crossover with the "Jumpstreet" movies titled "MIB 23", though that has since fallen apart.

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not be returning to the new "Men In Black" movies. The new trilogy will be a reboot/spin-off, possibly with a female lead. Even though rebooting a male-led property with women seems to be the new Hollywood gimmick, I think that mixing genders in "MiB" would actually be good change for the franchise.

If I was the casting director, I would get:

Ming-Na Wen

For the past four years, Ming-Na Wen has played the stoic Agent Melinda May on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". Based on that I believe that she would be perfect for the Tommy Lee Jones type role.

R.J. Cyler

I haven't seen anything that R.J. Cyler ("Power Rangers", "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl") has acted in. But I have seen him as himself competing against his fellow Power Rangers in the Movie Trivia Schmoedown. I saw enough to be convinced that he could play the young rookie Will Smith type character. If they were going to do all-female for the cast, then I think his "Power Rangers" co-star Becky G could also take the role.

Sigourney Weaver

In "Men in Black 3", Rip Torn's Agent Z was replaced by Emma Thompson's Agent O. This MiB precinct's chief should be played by sci-fi movie star Sigourney Weaver. Because, of course.

My Movie Ideas: "The Princess Bride" Reimagined

UPDATE August 9, 2022:
Forget everything I originally said. I was young and dumb and didn't know what I was talking about when I originally wrote it. At the beginning of this year (2022) I finally read "The Princess Bride" novel. Reading the novel made me understand just how perfect the movie is. The novel claims to be an abridgment of a historical tome only focusing on "the good parts" of the story. The movie does the same, only focusing on the good parts of the novel. Also, the actors are cast so perfectly that the characters in the movie are improvements over their book counterparts. There is no way the characters could ever be recast. So while the book could be readapted into a TV series, or the movie could be "reimagined" like I suggested five years ago, it just won't have the magic of the 1987 movie.

Half of the novel, though, is William Goldman's fictional account of his history with the fictional "The Princess Bride" tome and first abridging it and then adapting it into a movie script. A movie or TV series could be made about that.

ORIGINAL August 9, 2017:
Nostalgia for the 1980s and 1990s with lots of movies and TV shows from that time being revived or rebooted. One movie that will more than likely be remade sooner than later is "The Princess Bride", and this is how it should be done:

"The Princess Bride" is a movie about The Grandfather (Peter Falk) reading a book to The Grandson (Fred Savage). What we see as the movie is what The Grandson is picturing in his head as The Grandfather reads to him. So for "The Princess Bride" reimagined, The Grandson is now The Father reading the story to his son, and so it will be the same story with different actors because a new character is imagining what they look like. (Most characters can be recast; Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, and Wallace Shawn MUST reprise their characters.)

My other idea would be a Princess Bride 2. Not a full movie, but something like a Funny or Die sketch. Westley (Cary Elwes) and Buttercup (Robin Wright) have been married for 30 years. Their kids are now grown and have moved out of the house. It has been years since since Westley told Buttercup "As you wish." They are considering getting a divorce. Before they do, they go to Miracle Max (Billy Crystal) for counseling. Except Max is not much help because he continuously bickers with Valerie (Carol Kane). Westley and Buttercup get up to leave, but Max and Valerie tell them that they still love each other after being married for 115 years, even if they fight all the time. Westley and Buttercup leave realizing that their problems aren't as bad as they thought.

Spoilers on the Orient Express

WARNING: This post discusses the ending of an 83 year old story.

The first trailer for the new "Murder on the Orient Express" movie was released today.

I was in a movie discussion group on Facebook making a comment on how this is an unnecessary remake (this is the fourth adaptation since 1974). Part of my point was that even if somebody had never read the book or seen a movie adaptation (like me), they still knew that the twist ending reveal is that all of the suspects killed the victim. I assumed that over the last eight decades since the book was first published, and four decades since the first movie was released, the ending became common knowledge. The story has been referenced in or inspired many movies and TV shows. It's one of the most popular murder mysteries in the world. How could there be people who don't know the plot? Movies from 20 years ago (like "The Usual Suspects" and "The Sixth Sense") have endings that are part of the pop culture; if a person has only seen them recently (again, like me) they already know the twists even before watching. So it makes sense that a story four times that old would also be well known.

Whatever. My point is, Kenneth Branagh shouldn't have re-re-remade "Murder on the Orient Express" when he should be making the "Artemis Fowl" movie. I've been waiting 15 years for it!!!

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" and the Marvel Studios Logo

Yesterday, composer Michael Giacchino tweeted a video from the recording of the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" score.

The piece of music featured in the video is an orchestral version of the 1967 Spider-Man theme song. After listening to it a few times, I noticed that it sounded like an anthem that could be used for the Marvel Studios logo. I looked up the video of the logo and noticed that it and Giacchino's video were both exactly 37 seconds. So, I asked FangirlVideoEditz to put Giacchino's music over the Marvel Studios logo. It syncs perfectly.

I think that this is probably how "Spider-Man: Homecoming" will begin.

JJ Watt Cast In "The Incredibles" Prequel

The story is April 1st satire. It is not true but would be a good idea.
This paragraph is false:
Walt Disney Pictures has announced that they are working on a live-action prequel to Pixar's "The Incredibles". The movie will be an origin story about how Robert Parr got his super-strength. Houston Texan JJ Watt has been cast to play young Mr. Incredible. The movie will be directed by "The Incredibles" director Brad Bird as soon has he is finished working on "The Incredibles 2" in 2018.

Psych Movie Announced

This story is April 1st satire. There is no truth to it.
Universal Pictures has announced a feature film follow-up to USA's popular series "Psych". In "Psych: April Fools' Day", Shawn is hit by lighning at 11:59 p.m. on March 31. When he awakes, he finds that he now actually has psychic powers. After years of pretending, Shawn is enjoying his new gift - until he has a vision of himself dying to save Juliet, Gus, and his father. The movie will be directed by "Liar Liar" director Tom Shadyac.

Brosnan Is Bond Again In Deadpool 2

This story is April 1st satire. It is probably true, but as of now it is fiction.
This paragraph is true:
Fans went crazy back in January when Ryan Reynolds posted pictures of himself with Hugh Jackman and Pierce Brosnan to social media. Everybody was speculating whether Brosnan would play the character Cable and if Jackman would cameo as Wolverine in the sequel to "Deadpool".
This paragraph is fiction:
20th Century Fox has confirmed that Brosnan will be reprising his role of James Bond in "Deadpool 2". The inclusion of the character will be part of a joke about how X-Men actresses Famke Janssen (Jean Grey) and Halle Berry (Storm) were in 007 movies with Brosnan.

M&Ms Movie Announced

This story is April 1st satire. Hollywood should make it happen, but as of now it is a product of my imagination.
This paragraph is false:
Mars Inc. and Walt Disney Pictures have teamed up to make a live-action/animated hybrid M&Ms movie, with "Scooby Doo" and "The Smurfs" director Raja Gosnell directing. The project is being described as in the style of Muppets movies, with the main cast of M&Ms being supported by a slew of celebrity cameos. The M&Ms will be voiced by the same actors who do the commercials.
This paragraph is true:
Yellow is voiced by Academy Award-winner J.K. Simmons ("Spider-Man" trilogy, "Justice League", Red is Billy West ("Space Jam"), Green is Cree Summer ("A Different World", "Clifford the Big Red Dog"), and Ms. Brown is Vanessa Williams ("Ugly Betty", "Desperate Housewives")

Daisy Ridley Joins Indiana Jones 5

This story is an April 1st satire. I would like for it to be true, but as of now it is made up.
This paragraph is false:
"Star Wars" star Daisy Ridley is re-teaming with her "The Force Awakens" co-star Harrison Ford as the female lead in "Indiana Jones 5". The movie will be set in 1968 and Ridley will play April, a hippie and student in Doctor Jones' class who gets caught in the middle of Indiana's latest quest. "Indiana Jones 5" will be Ford's last movie as the character (who will retire and not be killed off), and Daisy's character will wear the fedora as the lead in future Jones movies.
This paragraph is true:
Production on "Indiana Jones 5" will begin sometime in 2018, after shooting on "Star Wars: Episode IX" wraps. Steven Spielberg returns to direct, with George Lucas executive producing, and John Williams composing the score. "Indiana Jones 5" opens July 19, 2019.
